By the river of Ahava,
He proclaimed a fast,
To afflict themselves before God,
That He might lead them on a safe  path

They carried many treasures,
The road was a dangerous one,
Ezra didn't ask for soldiers or horsemen
Because of the mighty hand of God

Some trust in horses and chariots, (Psalm 20:7)
Some trust in things they have,
Earthly things cannot deliver,
Nor provide safety like God's hand

Trust in The Lord with all your heart, (Prov 3:5)
Lean not on yourself for His will,
If God is for you, who can be against you! (Romans 8:21)
Ye have need to wait and be still! (Hebrews 10:36)

Ezra 8:21-22
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots , and some in horses : but we will remember the name of the LORD our God .

Prov 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart ; and lean not unto thine own understanding

Romans 8:21
What shall we then say to these things ? If God be for us , who can be against us ?

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience , that , after ye have done the will of God , ye might receive the promise .
