Seventeen years of rule,
Beginning with a rough start
He sat upon the throne
Though he prepared not his heart

He took advise from his friends
Instead of the wise old ones
The kingdom was then divided
By Rehoboam, King Solomon 's son

When God established his kingdom,
He started doing his own thing,
He forsook the law of The Lord,
Oh what troubles this did bring!

Many times when things go well,
We get high and  lifted up,
Thinking for our righteousness sake, (Deuteronomy 9:4)
We have this overflowing cup

We must prepare our hearts, (I Chronicles 29:18)
And with God, be sincere
Knowing our strength is not enough,
Coming to Him with tears

Begging for His mercies,
Lest we become consumed, (Lamentations 3:22)
With a contrite heart and broken spirit (Psalms 34:18)
Never lifted up like a fool

Deuteronomy 9:4
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

I Chronicles 29:18
O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:

Philippians 1:10
That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

Lamentations 3:22
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Psalms 34:18
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
